Is it necessary to use backing for caps? YES !!!! The backing creates a smooth, consistent
surface for the needle, hook and bobbin., especially on caps with rough buckram. It also prevents seams from dragging across the needle plate and it keeps the thread and bobbin tensions smooth and even.
Use a strong, thick backing, like our MCA290 to overcome the challenges associated with sewing on caps.
